June 30, 2010 (New Hempstead, NY) - Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps of New Hempstead announced on Monday that the agency had been named 2010 EMS Agency of the Year by the Hudson Valley Regional EMS Council of Cornwall-on-Hudson.

A plaque was presented to the Corps today by Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef. "We are very proud of our honorees, people who put their lives on the line daily to save others," Vanderhoef said. The plaque was presented at a ceremony held on Tuesday at the County offices in New City.

The Corps received the "EMS Agency of the Year" award from the regional office. Criteria for the award are established by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. Spring Hill was selected from the EMS agencies within the six-county area of the Hudson Valley Regional office.

Spring Hill was established in June 1967 and has consistently remained the busiest volunteer EMS agency in Rockland County over the past years. The agency responds to almost 5,000 emergency calls annually.

Throughout its history, Spring Hill has made strides in advancing the level of care for residents in the towns of Ramapo and Clarkstown. The agency was the first in Rockland County to establish continuing education programs for its EMTs, and the first to offer advanced first responder medical treatments such as automated defibrillation.
